One time I took a good friend of mine to some garage sales to “show her the ropes” of Ebay reselling. With only $10 in her pocket, I promised her that if she listened to me, she would at least double her money. So, on our merry way we went searching for those treasures that would make her some moolah.

We walked up the drive to this amazing garage sale and instantly I saw the PERFECT resell item! (SIDE NOTE: Okay, now if you really knew me, you’d know that I’m a HUGE Disney nerd! And believe me, when I tell you…. I can spot Disney stuff from a mile away with a simple sniff and blindfolded.) Anyhoo… This “perfect resell item” was a brand new in the box Authentic California Screamin’ Battery Operated Roller Coaster Set. (For those non-Disney nerds… it’s a replica of a roller coaster in the Disney park, California Adventure.) Ahhh…. with a bright shining beam of light and angels singing a heavenly chorus (not really but that’s what it felt like at the time.) I was dying to buy it.

BUT. I made a promise to my friend to help her make money. And I KNEW this was a money maker. So, being the awesome friend that I am, (and also a person who keeps promises) I called her over to it and said “you need to buy this right freaking now.” With a $5 price tag on it, though, she did NOT want to “risk it”. And no matter how long I stood there telling her it was a solid investment, she balked. SO… also not being a person to walk away from profit, I told her “If you are sure you don’t want to buy it, I am going to buy it. Now is your chance… buy it.” She still said “no” so I bought the sucker. Hey, don’t judge…. I TRIED to make her see reason.

A week later, I was skipping to the bank with $138 from that $5 investment because, of course, it sold on eBay for $138 plus shipping. And my friend…well, she learned to listen to the pro. Or maybe not, but the lesson being… if someone has been super successful at their business for a hot minute and they are giving you the tools to do the same…. TAKE THE TOOLS and USE THEM because it sure does suck to watch the opportunity slip through your hands knowing you were given a chance. Right? So, let me ask you this… If I was to offer you a tool to help you learn how to take $5 and turn it into $138, would you use it?
